What is Reiki?

Reiki is an ancient Japanese healing technique. It is a method of hands-on healing which focuses universal energy, transferring it through the hands of the practitioner to the recipient to encourage emotional or physical healing. It is a form of energy healing. There are many names for energy healing, Reiki, Therapeutic Touch and Qigong, are just a few. The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association (ANA), has certified Therapeutic Touch, a form of energy healing, as a viable method for promoting healing.

How does it work?

All forms of energy healing are based on quantum mechanics. According to quantum physics, we are part of a vast, invisible field of energy. Every human being, along with every material thing in the Universe, broadcasts a distinct energy pattern. Quantum Entanglement Theory states that all humans and the quantum field are interconnected. In other words, we are all part of a vast invisible energy field.

Each of our bodies has an energy system, much like we have a nervous system or a circulatory system. This energy system has been documented and measured in scientific studies, but western medicine is just beginning to recognize its significance. Through Reiki or Therapeutic Touch, the practitioner taps into the energy fields of the person receiving the treatment. Areas where energy is blocked can create illness or pain. The practitioner can gently focus on these blocks and helps to open them. Thus, promoting the free flow of energy and restoring the body’s ability to heal itself.

What can I expect from a session?

Unlike massage, in which the person receiving the treatment undresses, Reiki is performed with the client dressed in comfortable clothing. Reiki is a safe noninvasive treatment that feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. A session can last 15 minutes to one hour or more. Usually, Reiki is conducted in a relaxing environment with the client resting comfortably on a table, but it can be done anywhere. You leave with a sense of wellness, it just feels wonderful. Experiencing Reiki is one of many ways to maintain good health.
